On the first Friday of select months, four times a year, the entire Museum will be open in the evening at a reduced admission. These special evenings will focus on a current scientific topic or activity.
This First Friday's focus is: STARTUP Sendoff!
The Museum’s computer revolution exhibition, STARTUP, is closing in mid-November. This evening will feature a final fling with the fledgling computers! Guided tours will be offered at 5:45 and 7:30 p.m., starting at the entrance to the exhibition. Several educational organizations will offer fun activities related to changing technology and computers. The list of exhibitors includes the Bradbury Science Museum, Intel NM, Los Alamos National Laboratory, NM Supercomputing Challenge, Sandia National Laboratories, Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, UNM Civil Engineering Department, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Two of these organizations have provided videos which will be shown on a continuous 21-minute loop in the STEM Auditorium 6:30 – 9 p.m.
Museum admission for the event will be $5 per person. The DynaTheater will present Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs at 6:30 p.m. for only $5 per person in addition to museum admission. That means you can see a movie and tour the entire museum for what it normally costs an adult to see the DynaTheater alone! Admission to Fractal Fridays in the planetarium, presented by the Fractal Foundation, is the same as it has been for years: $10 adults, $7 seniors, $5 children. There is no need to purchase a museum or DynaTheater ticket to see the planetarium; they are sold separately.
The museum's observatory will open at 7 p.m, weather permitting, and members of the Albuquerque Astronomical Society will be aiming the telescope at wonders in the night sky. At 6 p.m., a member of the space science department will present a brief, free talk about what to look for in the current sky in the new STEM Auditorium.
