Scientific Illustration: the Intersection of Art and Science

Location:
1801 Mountain Rd NW

Have you ever just sat and observed the natural world?  Have you ever looked and observed the beauty of scales, muscles, or feathers?  If so, then join us for a special pairing in the museum.  First you have access to our behind the scenes tour of the Bioscience and Geoscience Collections.  Explore our hidden treasures and learn about the Museum’s role in collection care.  Then after, use your powers of observation to learn how to create your own scientific illustrations.  We will use your observations, attention to detail, and your creativity to draw objects from the Museum's exhibits and collections. Supplies will be provided.

Matt Celeskey is a natural history illustrator and exhibit designer. His work appears in several museum exhibitions, technical publications and popular books. He is member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and a Research Associate at the NM Museum of Natural History and Science.
