The Museum is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm every day with these important exceptions:
The Museum is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Years Day and non-holiday Mondays in September and January.

- New Mexico seniors age 60 and older receive free Museum admission every Wednesday.

Free County Months
Residents of specific counties in New Mexico receive free admission to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science during specific months.
This free admission policy is part of the Museum’s County Recognition Month to welcome and honor New Mexico residents from around the state for supporting the Museum and its numerous statewide educational programs.
Admission to the Extreme Screen DynaTheater and/or Planetarium venues is by the regular charge.

The Museum has designated five days during the year when everyone is admitted free.
- The second Tuesday in January
- Second Tuesday in February
- September 11
- Veteran's Day (November 11)
- Christmas Eve Day (December 24)
(Does not include DynaTheater or Planetarium).
Complimentary Tickets
Complimentary tickets for all Museum venues may be given to:
- All current members of the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) and the American Association of Museums (AAM) with proper identification.
- Representatives of the news media approved by the Public Information Officer or Museum Executive Director.
- Representatives of the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB), State Tourism Department, and Chamber of Commerce approved by the Tours Coordinator, Public Information Officer or Museum Director.
- All DCA employees and their families and legislators with official DCA pass.
- Bus drivers/tour guides and motor coach escorts accompanying tour groups approved by Tour Group Reservations.
- Teachers and required chaperones accompanying a school group approved by Tour Group Reservations.
- Professional colleagues of Museum staff members. Appropriate staff member should notify Admissions staff in advance of visit.
- Museum and Foundation employee identification badge permits the employee, spouse, children, parent, parents of spouse and relative residing with employee to visit the Museum free of charge (with or without the employee present if the Admissions Desk is notified in advance of visit by appropriate staff member).
- Board of Trustees and Foundation Board of Directors receive complimentary admission with their identification badge.
- Volunteers who are paid members of the Volunteers’ Association receive free Museum admission year round.
- Any person arriving at the Museum on official business must be assigned a guest/visitor badge at the reception desk.
- Museum and Foundation employees and volunteers may see DynaTheater or Planetarium free of charge, when the theater showing has unsold seats available.

Any organization or individual that does not receive approval for complimentary Museum admission will be sent a standard form letter explaining the Museum's policy and a list of Museum free days and county recognition months.
Note: Special request passes may be requested for individuals not mentioned above with the approval of the Museum Executive Director.
Note: Special passes are issued by the Foundation Executive Director after requester has filled out a Museum/DynaTheater Ticket Request Form and received prior approval.
