Typothorax coccinarum

Typothorax coccinarum

Aetosaurs (eye-EE-tow-sores) were heavily armored reptiles of the Late Triassic. This cast of a nearly complete skeleton of the aetosaur Typothorax was found near Tucumcari, New Mexico. Paleontologists believe that the aetosaur died belly down in the mud and was later flipped over by a scavenger that ate part of the stomach.
