The shallow and warm seas that covered parts of New Mexico during the Late Cretaceous teemed with life. Sharks, ammonites and giant marine reptiles--the mosasaurus and plesiosaurus--swam over the sandy and muddy bottoms. Clams and snails populated the sea floor.
