50th Anniversary of Apollo 15

Location:
Museum Upper Level

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 15 by walking on the moon! NASA's giant 40' X 20' lunar map will be spread out on the upper level of the museum July 28 - 30 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Also see the 1971 NASA 1/2-hour documentary about Apollo 15 called "In the Mountains of the Moon" along with a famous science experiment that astronaut Dave Scott demonstrated during the mission.

This vinyl map can only be walked on in socks, so please be prepared to kick your shoes off for a lunar stroll. Sorry; no strollers, wheelchairs, or service animals are allowed on the map. It's perfectly fine to stand at the edge and look across.

The museum's Junior Docents and volunteers from the Rio Rancho Astronomical Society will guide wannabe astronauts with facts about lunar geology and all Apollo landing sites marked on the map. They'll also reveal some interesting associations between this Apollo mission and New Mexico.
