A Day in the Life of a Paleontologist – Discovering the Arctic Dinosaurs of Alaska
During Earth Science Week, join us for a special Voices in Science talk given by NMMNHS Executive Director Dr. Anthony Fiorillo.
The Arctic holds the secrets of the history of life on Earth. Vertebrate fossils from the Cretaceous of Alaska, and their sedimentological and geochemical context, can address fundamental questions about how climate has varied in the past, the impacts of those ancient climates, and what perspectives the past provides for understanding future change.
As far back as he can remember, Dr. Fiorillo has “only wanted to do one of two things in life: play centerfield for the New York Yankees, or chase dinosaurs. To the detriment of his parents’ retirement plans, he pursued the latter.” Dr. Fiorillo has been exploring the Arctic since 1998. Join him for a look at what it is like to do field paleontology in Alaska; and the exciting discoveries of polar dinosaurs.
This event celebrates National Fossil Day and is part of the Museum's celebration of Earth Science Week. Learn more at earthsciweek.org.
