NMMNH&S has a vibrant paleoscience department that does current research and has extensive fossil collections.

The Space Science wing of NMMNH&S houses our observatory, planetarium, and space science exhibits and collections. Active research in this department includes planetary geology and participation on the Mars rover Opportunity science team.

The Geoscience wing of the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science conducts research geology and paleontology and maintains the Museum's extensive fossil and mineralogical collections.

The curators at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science direct scientific research and collection activities for the Museum. All of the science staff conduct research on the natural history of New Mexico and the surrounding areas. This research is published in many venues, including the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science Bulletin series. 

Bioscience includes a diverse collection of biological specimens that are accessible for research, education and exhibits.

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science produces a variety of publications, ranging from posters to a bilingual education series for elementary teachers to technical contributions on natural history.

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science (NMMNHS) Research Collections Database includes over 110,000 records documenting fossils and biological specimens held by the museum.
